South Africa has a long and varied coastline and straddles the dividing line between the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. The east coast is washed by the warm, southward moving Mozambique, or Agulhas current, which influences the prevailing temperatures, so that sub tropic conditions prevail. South Africa is one destination where non-diving companions have absolutely no reason to be bored, and even the most enthusiastic divers will be surely tempted to spend at least a few days exploring this fascinating country. First that spring to mind is a game-viewing safari. These can range from relative inexpensive self catering options in one of the excellent National Parks, such as the Umfolozi – Hluhluwe, not to far from Aliwal Shoal, which is rated as the second most popular dive site in South Africa, and rated as one of the 10 best dive sites in the world.
